Selection criteria for PhD Degrees can vary depending on the university, research institute, and specific subject of course. Some common selection criteria include: 

• Academic Record: Most universities and research institutes require strong academic and educational skill with a high GPA in undergraduation or master’s degree. 
• Research Proposal: Aspirants are generally required to submit a detailed research proposal describing the various aspects of the proposed research topic, literature, methodology etc. The topic of the research proposal should be unique and related only to their subject of study. This is being made to assess the originality of the proposed research. 
• Letter of Recommendation: Letters of recommendation from faculty members and expert mentors working with the candidates’ academic research abilities are generally required. These documents must be attached to the applicant’s form for getting an advanced Ph.D. degree. 
• Statement of Purpose (SOP): Statement of Purpose is required like the applicant’s studies, research interests, and Ph.D. degree. 
• Entry Tests: Some universities or research institutes may require aspirants to take a national standardized common test like CSIR UGC NET, UGC NET, IIT JAM, NPAT, and Gate to assess according to the scores as part of the application form. While some universities conduct their own exams.
