What is the purpose of your dissertation?

We must examine the purposes from three perspectives. 

First, there is the institutional purpose: to ensure that the degree holder has made a contribution to his or her respective field and to maintain an honourable academic transition. Furthermore, the candidate’s ability to conduct and publish research and for the institution to generate and disseminate new knowledge is critical. 

Second, your personal purpose should be to earn your PhD, but you should also see it as a way of learning. Only by writing the dissertation will you be able to learn a lot about yourself and the topic you’ve researched. Furthermore, you can improve your PhD dissertation/thesis by seriously considering the expectation that you will contribute to scholarly knowledge. 

Third, the communication goal: You must write a dissertation or thesis to inform, not to express personal feelings or to entertain. It should be simple while also being clear.
